Amrita Rao is a Bollywood model and actress. She began her entertainment career in the modeling industry, after being chosen for the “Fairever Face Cream” ad. Amrita Rao then received numerous offers by various brands, appearing in advertisements of Johnson & Johnsons’ Clean & Clear Face Wash, Nestle’s Bru Coffee, Pantene, Domino’s Pizza, Coke, and Pepsi, among others.
Because of her successful modeling career, Amrita Rao received calls from Bollywood directors, asking her to star in different films. By 2002, she made her movie debut in “Ab Ke Baras” and received her first award nomination as Star Screen Award for “Most Promising Female Newcomer.” That same year, Amrita Rao appeared in the history of Bhagat Singh’s life on the biography entitled “The Legend of Bhagat Singh.”
In 2003, Amrita Rao landed her breakthrough role in the Ken Ghosh movie Ishq Vishk. For her portrayal of Payal, she received a Filmfare nomination for “Best Female Debut,” another ‘Most Promising Female Newcomer’ from the Star Screen Awards, and a Zee Cine Award nomination for ‘Best Female Debut.’ Amrita Rao’s Ishq Vishk role also led to the ‘IIFA Best Female Debut Award,’ the Sansui Award for ‘Best Female Debut’ and Stardust’s ‘Female Superstar of Tomorrow.’
In 2004, Amrita Rao appeared in the movies “Masti,” “Deewaar” and “Main Hoon Na,” which earned her a Filmfare nomination for “Best Supporting Actress.” She continued to appear in various films throughout 2005, which included the comedy romance HD flick “Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi,” and the musical drama “Shikhar.”
After appearing in the 2006 romantic comedy film “Pyare Mohan,” Amrita Rao landed the role of Poonam in the romantic drama Bollywood film “Ishq Vishk.” Her portrayal of a traditional young woman engaged to the lead character has received positive reviews, which led to a Star Screen nomination for Best Actress, and the Anandalok Puroshkar Awards for “Most Promising New Talent,” the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award and the “Jodi of the Year” Sports World Awards alongside Shahid Kapoor.
In 2007, Amrita Rao made her Telugu film debut in “Athidhi” alongside Mahesh Babu and performed in the “Heyy Babyy” song number for the movie of the same title. That same year, Amrita Rao was awarded the ‘Young Achiever’ Award at the GR8 Women Awards.
In 2008, Amrita Rao appeared in “My Name is Anthony Gonsalves,” made a special appearance in the film “Shaurya,” and won the Stardust Best Actress Award for her role as Kamla in the movie “Welcome to Sajjanpur.” The following year, Amrita Rao’s acting career continued to flourish with more projects, including the 2009 sports film “Victory” based on Indian cricket and the Bollywood comedy flick “Shortkut - The Con Is On.” She also made a special appearance on the 2009 romantic comedy “Life Partner.”
The most recent project of Amrita Rao includes the special appearance on the 2010 Hindi romantic comedy movie “Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Ha.” She will also be seen in the 2011 Hindi romance film “Love U...Mr. Kalakaar!” and “Kunal Avadana,” a Chandra Prakash Dwivedi historical film.
